Labor should avoid letting the Bennelong by-election becoming a personality contest

When a political party has an attractive candidate it is easy to forget that elections are not personality contests. The effort goes into the froth and bubble rather than delivering the message. So now that Labor has got its Bennelong campaign underway it's time to quickly move on from happy snaps of Kristina Keneally to its real strong point of reminding voters of their unique opportunity to send a message to Malcolm Turnbull.

Thankfully the newly formed Australian Conservatives will soon be on the ground to steer things in the right direction. Cory Bernardi will not be relying on a pretty face as he urges people to desert the Liberal Party. The good Senator will be attacking what the Liberal party he deserted now stands for.
Labor should be doing the same thing from its own, different perspective.
