A tick for the speech writer and the deliverer

A fine speech today by Prime Minister Julia Gillard commemorating the death of Sir Zelman Cowen. Both written and delivered well.

Well richard, i don't agree. I am afraid I stopped listening after the first sentence, which reads:-
"That the House express its deep regret at the death on 8 December 2011 of the Right Honourable Sir Zelman Cowen AK, GCMG, GCVO, QC, a former Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia from 1977to 1982".

The words "a former" are redundant. If the drafting of the opening sentence is so sloppy, I'm scarcely going to waste my time reading on.
